Fuel Tank Puncture / Trucking Accident $12.5 million verdict |
Another vehicle collided into an F-150 causing the fuel tank to be punctured. A large fire resulted and three people were burned to death. This case resulted in a $12.5 verdict for Mr. Mathes, whose son and parents burned to death in this collision, which also involved a semi-truck. Baretto v. Recovery Management Corporation |
Trucking Accident $5 million settlement |
Sarah Baretto was walking her bicycle across the street in Independence, Missouri. Robby Brown, the defendant driver, drove his semi-truck through a red light and drove over Sarah with his tractor-trailer. Brown testified that he never saw Sarah. Truck Collision / Post Collision Fuel Fed Fire $4 million verdict |
Michael Newton, a patrolman with the Missouri Highway Patrol, was rear ended in his Crown Victoria while issuing a ticket on the side of the highway. The collision resulted in Newton's death and serious burn injuries to the passenger. A Jackson County, Missouri jury found the truck driver liable and awarded $4 million. |

Cravens v. Ryder TRS, Inc, PRI, Inc. and Ford Motor Co. |
Trucking Accident $1.4 million verdict |
Paul Cravens was driving a rented Ryder truck. Cravens attempted to slow or stop the truck because a school bus had stopped on the road in front of him. The Ryder truck, however, suddenly and uncontrollably accelerated toward the school bus. Cravens continued to apply pressure to the brake, but the truck did not stop. The Ryder truck struck the school bus and the collision killed Paul Cravens. This case resulted in a $1.4 million verdict. |

Plaintiff Bottcher was involved in a truck collision where one truck was completing an improper lane change and collided with another truck. The jury awarded a $1.3 million verdict in this case. |

A volunteer fireman at the scene of a truck/car wreck was struck and killed by a car that came through the wreck site. This was a case of first impression involving the Rescue Doctrine. Henderson v. Alfred Wray and Express Leasing

Kenneth and Royetta Zeller were driving on U.S. Highway 71 near Pineville, Missouri. An Express Leasing semi-truck driven by Alfred Wray failed to see a red light and struck the rear of a Ford Escort in front of him. The impact forced knocked the Escort into the path of the Zellers. The Escort caught fire and both Kenneth and Royetta Zeller were severely burned. Royetta died from her burn injuries and although Kenneth survived, he was burned over 25% of his body. This case resulted in a confidential settlement. |

Underride of Semi-Trailer Truck Currently Pending |
Plaintiffs rear-ended a semi-trailer truck. The underride bar broke, allowing the car to go under the rear of the truck. Both occupants of the car were killed. This case is currently pending in St. Louis. |
