Fox News Highlights Dangers, Inspections in New York Trucking Accidents - 2011-08-23

WICZ News (the Fox affiliate in Binghamton, New York) aired this week a report on the dangers of New York trucking accidents, titled “Truck inspections look to keep drivers safe.”  In the report the news outlet shows that inspection records of vehicles in crashes have been guilty of U.S. Department of Transportation violations that were ignored.

"The safety of commercial motor vehicles (is) regulated by the federal motor carry safety administration, but also the state of New York," Sgt. Scott Hendershott told Fox 40 in the report. "They both adopted regulations and we enforce those regulations.  We are especially trained to conduct truck inspections.  Every day on an ongoing basis we’re conducting truck inspections in a multitude of areas across the state.”

The news article draws attention to hazards on the road for non-commercial vehicles, and recent statistics back that up: with more than 3,000 deaths and 30,000 injuries resulting from accidents involving semi-trucks, 18-wheelers, tractor trailers and other commercial vehicles in the U.S. each year, it has been estimated that a truck collision occurs every 16 minutes. The U.S. Department of Transportation states that 86% of people killed and 77% of people injured in a trucking accident are in a non-commercial vehicle.

Because of the large size of trucks and the significant size difference between trucks and other vehicles on the road, trucking accidents can involve catastrophic injuries. Truck accident attorneys Bob Langdon and Kent Emison are recognized as two of the best trial attorneys in the United States.
