Kent Emison Named Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Litigation - 2011-11-17

J. Kent Emison

Langdon & Emison attorney Kent Emison has been named the “Lawyer of the Year” within the Kansas City metro area for personal injury litigation. This award goes to one attorney per metro area for each practice area – the results are included in the U.S. News & World Report Guide for 2012, as part of its guide to the “Best Law Firms in the U.S.”

The award is intended to honor those who have had a standout career and also a stellar year of results for their clients in their chosen practice specialty. The peer review organization Best Lawyers in America selected Kent as the “Kansas City, Mo., Best Lawyers Personal Injury Litigation Lawyer of the Year” for 2012 because of his representations across a wide spectrum of personal injury litigation.

“The lawyers being honored as Lawyers of the Year have received particularly high ratings in our surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity,” the publication said in a statement about each of the nation’s selected lawyers of the year. Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The current, 18th edition of The Best Lawyers in America (2012) is based on more than 3.9 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers.

Kent has had a string of successes in the courtroom in 2011, most recently being a $7 million verdict in a trucking case before a federal jury in northwest Arkansas.  100% of Kent’s practice focuses on litigation in product liability, motor vehicle accidents, and other cases involving personal injury and wrongful death. In that field he has served as lead trial counsel in numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements and has handled cases all across the United States, though he has remained a committed member of his local community in Lafayette County, Missouri.

Throughout Kent’s career he has been an advocate of trial by jury and has served as president and board member of a number of bar associations. Earlier this fall he along with partner Bob Langdon was selected as one of the top 100 lawyers in Missouri and Kansas by the peer review process Super Lawyers.
