NHTSA Releases Drunk Driving Statistics

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released some new drunk-driving statistics that show an estimated $44 billion in costs associated with drunk-driving crashes. The report, based on 2017 data, can be viewed here.

An estimated 30 people each day in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes. NHTSA estimates that that equates to one death every 48 minutes, for the data available from 2017. These deaths have fallen by a third in the last three decades, but drunk-driving crashes still claim more than 10,000 lives per year.
