Several L&E attorneys participated in the recent Society of Women Trial Lawyers annual conference in Destin, Fla. Nicole Smith led a presentation titled “Mom Guilt: The Internal Conflict,” while Maggie Langdon helped moderate several days of CLE events.
The SWTL offers educational opportunities and networking with colleagues, aiming to build lifelong connections within the trial bar. The Society’s mission statement is to be a community dedicated to lifting women up, side by side, supporting them in their endeavors to be the best trial attorneys & women they can be. This year’s annual conference was reported to be another huge success.
Nicole co-leads the firm’s mass torts team and also assists with drafting, discovery, and experts on complex, single-event cases. Maggie is a member of the firm’s complex tort team, and presented a CLE at the SWTL 2025 annual conference.
Both Nicole and Maggie have been National Trial Lawyers 40 Under 40 honorees in the category of civil plaintiff’s litigation. Both attorneys gained outstanding experience early in their legal career as clerks for judges at the state and county levels. Both J.D. graduates of the University of Kansas, Maggie and Nicole remain active in the legal community as members of other professional organizations as well, including the AWL of Greater Kansas City and the KCMBA.
In addition to the legal education offerings, SWTL features attorney members as part of a series dedicated to the journeys, successes, and insights of a different member, illuminating the profound impact they make in the legal sphere and beyond. For the month of June the organization’s “Luminary” feature will be Maggie Langdon, so watch for that via their site dedicated to this series of Luminary profiles from all over the country.
